Welcome to episode 2 of being happy in an unhappy world. I hope everyone has had a good week. Mine has been pretty productive, I finally set up my home made jewellery company “May Jewels,” I have completed Unit 4 of my Business and Administration qualification and started an online Mindfulness and Stress Reduction Diploma. This has been the first week throughout lockdown where the world has seemed slightly normal. On Saturday, Sols and I got a Burns the Bread and today we were able to take a walk on the beach and even get a takeaway coffee. How times have changed! Who would've thought we would be getting so excited about the smallest things we would have done in our normal day to day lives, pre - coronavirus.
If there is anything we can do through this difficult time is express gratitude. Being at home gives us the chance to reflect on how this time can calm us, reduce fears and expectations. With no plans being able to be made for the foreseeable future, it gives us all a chance to slow down and be grateful for everyday.
For me it has made me appreciate the simpler things in life. Throughout the lockdown we have had 2 super-moons. If I was living my everyday, normal life I would not be sat at my window looking out for the moon. Even just buying a new bunch of flowers every week to brighten up my room and kitchen, wandering around my village and appreciating the place I live. The amount of new routes I have found to walk in my village that I have never been to before is crazy. One of the main things I have been able to enjoy over the past couple of months is reading! I was never ever a reader but always wanted to be. I would highly recommend "Such a fun age" written by Kiley Reid and "Normal People" written by Sally Rooney. I would always prefer sitting and watching Youtube or trashy TV than start a book. But now I am half way through my 3rd and I am loving it! Sitting out in the sun and reading my book is something I have grown to love and also get me off my mobile phone.
COVID-19 has taught me to appreciate the little things in life completely. I am doing things I would not normally do and completely slowing down and actually enjoying my time. Life rushes past us so quickly so making the most of these simpler days is something we will never regret.
