7:30AM
I would normally wake up around 7:45AM so I had enough time to have a coffee and get myself ready for work. I didn’t start until 10:00AM but the commute to work would usually take over an hour so I had to leave Northfields station by 8:40 to make it to work on time. The walk to the station from where I was staying took just under 10 minutes.
8:30AM
I would hop on the Piccadilly line to Piccadilly Circus, then change to the Bakerloo line to Baker Street where I would work in a small office just off of Regents Park.
10:00AM
I would start work at 10:00AM and my first job as a social media intern would be to check the influencers who Jane Carr had gifted their scarves tos Instagram’s to see if they had posted anything. This would take me around 30 minutes to complete, sometimes longer depending on how much these people had posted. One of these influencers being the actress Laura Linney.
10:30AM
They would then assign a new job where I would usually create mood boards of the fashion weeks. As I was working as an intern from September to December all the fashion weeks in each country were to come. So lucky enough, I was able to work on projects to do with that.
11:30AM
Normally throughout the day (depending on the weather) they would send me to run an errand or do some photo shooting. A couple of their scarves were hung in The Conrad Shop so I would take regular trips there to photograph the shop. They would also send me on trips to send new design samples or to find new locations around London to shoot. Sometimes the other interns and I would even be sent out to shoot a part of the new collection to use on their social media sites.
Christmas I would spend a large majority of the day shooting in the large department stores and photographing the Christmas lights around London.
1:00PM
At 1:00PM we would always take our lunch. Us interns would always go together and sit in Regents Park. One afternoon a Saudi Arabian prince actually sent Lebanese food to the office to say thank you to Jane Carr.
2:00PM
The interns would return to the office after our lunch break and be assigned a new job for the afternoon. Normally I would sit on a mac and do some research for a couple of hours. A lot of the time I would plan captions for their social media posts or set up the studio in the office. Jane Carr has buyers come in at least once a week for departments stores in different countries, online sites or just personal shoppers. Whenever this happened, the interns would help set up the studio to present the new collaboration to the visitors. Other online research I would do is updated contact lists for magazines and other influencers in this business. This would include finding their Linkedin, email, job titles, Instagram and where they are currently working.
4:00PM
Normally when the weather is nice, they send me on a little task around London. My favourite mission I was sent on was when I had to photograph the Hauser & Wirth art exhibition as Jane Carr was doing a collaboration with the artist. I also had to photograph the Freeze London art fair.
6:00PM
All the interns would finish work at 6:00PM and I would trek back to Ealing. On a couple of occasions, I have been able to photograph some events in the evening. The main event being when Jane Carr launched her new collaborations at Fortnum and Mason. This was a really fun experience and once in a lifetime opportunity. Not every day you are working for a company who is collaborating with such a big department store.
